Protofacturing Hardware Accelerator

Protofacturing Hardware Accelerator

Launching in the summer of 2024, the Protofacturing Accelerator supports physical product startups who have developed a proof of concept prototype and are preparing for initial manufacturing runs. Program participants will refine their initial prototypes to create engineering prototypes – a cleaned up iteration that has achieved “design freeze”. Throughout the duration of the program, participants will engage in customer discovery and continue to secure funding for the upfront manufacturing costs of physical products. The program curriculum and support will be delivered virtually; participants do not need to be in Ithaca to participate. The Protofacturing Hardware Accelerator is no longer accepting applications.

Who is this program for?

The Rev Protofacturing Accelerator is open to anyone with a proof-of-concept prototype looking to refine their design to an engineering prototype and begin discussions with manufacturers. Teams do not need to have legally formed an entity but should have plans to do so during the accelerator. To be admitted, teams must have an initial prototype developed that proves the feasibility of their concept, and have conducted customer discovery. Both students and professionals are welcome to join the accelerator; there are no location requirements as all content is delivered virtually. Note: Digital platforms, applications, and other software programs are not eligible unless paired with a physical product that you intend to develop in our program.

Program Structure

The program will run from August to December and will have virtual programming on Monday afternoons. All participating teams will be assigned a mentor to support their business development and strategy who will meet with them regularly.

Tiers of Participation:

  • Content Only: This group will have access to all virtual content sessions and additional resources, including workshops, digital curriculum, and select Cornell University startup resources. Content participants will have access to business support and mentorship, as well as any technical feedback provided during scheduled sessions.
  • Development Support: This group will access all the same resources as the content participants but with additional engineering and development support, including remote hardware prototyping lab access. Companies admitted into this tier have products that are amendable to the skillset and shop at Rev with reasonable timelines and expectations to work with the engineering development team. Regional teams in this tier will have the choice to opt in to in-person shop access & training or remote access through our development team.

Applicants will be asked to select their preferred tier on the program application. If applying for the development tier, teams may be asked to meet with Rev’s engineering team to assess feasibility and strategy for development in Rev’s shop. Teams will be selected for development support. Questions about the Protofacturing Accelerator can be directed to [email protected].
